This week, I would like to share an article I wrote for the “One Magnificent Life” Substack blog with Arabah Joy.
“When Lightning Strikes the Soul”
The sky darkens as a summer storm rolls across the prairie, bringing billowing black clouds and distant thunder.
Heavy rain pounds the earth, while brittle grass and cracked ground absorb moisture like thirsty sponges.
Birds swoop into the deluge, foraging for seeds beneath the lilac tree.
They chirp and vocalize as they relish the life-giving rain, heedless of their soaked wings.
Bright petunias turn colourful faces skyward, seeking wet abundance often lacking in this arid landscape.
City noises shift as streets run with water, vehicle wheels splashing puddles in pursuit of shelter.
I sit protected beneath the tin roof of my patio, which usually shelters me from prairie summer heat and now shields me from the soaking sky.

Behind the Writing Desk...
Hello Friend…Thank you for joining me for a few moments today. The summer heatwave is in full force. I’m cooling off in the shade of my backyard after an early morning session of pickleball.
Our family enjoyed a week of camping up north. It was relaxing and fun despite the mosquitoes - which were fierce! We saw wildlife, we swam, boated, played mini-golf, and went hiking. I also relaxed and read several books.

I read EIGHT books while I was on vacation! Yes, writers are also readers.
I submitted a few stories to Chicken Soup and two other blogs - I’m still waiting to hear back from them.
